CHALUMEAU

   
Definition: Single-tube, cylindrical, single reed instrument. A seventeenth century ancestor of the clarinet, it has a recorder type body with a single reed mouthpiece. SHAWMS (FOLK OBOES)

Shawms are loud, piercing instruments often used for folk dance music. The Breton Bombarde is often played together with the Biniou bagpipe. We also have Spanish Tarotes and Grallas.
