The West Midlands branch of Hobgoblin Music opened in 2003, and moved to Priory Queensway in the city centre in 2014. Serving Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Bromsgrove and the surrounding areas, Hobgoblin Music in Birmingham stocks our full range of folk and acoustic musical instruments, spares, accessories and tutor materials, and specialises particularly in woodwind (folk and orchestral), accordions and melodeons.

We have moved! We are still Birmingham’s City Centre Music Shop, just a little further along the same road (due to building works).  We are easy to find from our previous location, just follow Priory Queensway eastward, cross over the roundabout, past the small Sainsbury's and Tesco  on your left, and we are a very short way along, on the raised walkway.  Some Map Apps are giving the wrong directions, so remember to stay on Priory Queensway. Watch this space for  exciting relocation news in 2026!

Our Location

We have moved to a new location, 10 doors along from the previous one, and still on Priory Queensway – ignore Satnav taking you around the corner.  Keep the local Sainsbury's and Tesco shops on your left down Priory Queensway and you'll see is within a few paces of the Tesco, on the raised walkway.

The new location is still on Priory Queensway, opposite B&M, and just around the corner from The Law Courts and Corporation Street and just 5 mins walk from SNOW HILL TRAIN STATION and MOOR ST TRAIN STATION and only 8 mins walk from NEW STREET TRAIN STATION.  The nearest Tram stop is Bull Street, and several bus routes take you directly to our location.

You can't drive directly to us, but parking nearby is simple. The cheapest nearby car park (3 mins walk away) is the NCP High Street in Dale End B4 7LN. The closest car park to use is the NCP Londonderry House multi storey in Dalton Street (postcode B4 7LX) which is right behind us.  There are many other car parks in the City Centre including Snow Hill Station B3 2BJ which is around 5 mins walk from us.

Repair work undertaken includes ukulele, bouzouki, mandolin and guitar setups and restringing, accordion, melodeon and concertina tuning and repairs, woodwind and brass repairs and maintenance, specialist violin set ups and repairs, bridge and peg fitting, bow rehairs, banjo or drum skin replacement, and much more besides – contact us for information or bring in your instrument for a free, no-obligation quote.

Secondhand - We buy instruments

If you're looking to sell a musical instrument then get in touch to see what we can offer you. We buy some instruments outright if the price is right, and we'll consider a trade-in for almost any instrument. We also take lots of instruments on a commission basis, and we're particularly keen to stock instruments by local luthiers and makers. Bring in your unwanted guitars, ukuleles, banjos, concertinas, melodeons, accordions, flutes, woodwind and brass instruments, violins, keyboards and more, and we'll see what we can do for you! If your instrument is bulky or you would need to travel a fair way to get to us, please do contact us by email or phone first so we can let you know whether it's worth bringing in.

Short Term Rentals

We are often able to offer short or long term musical instrument rentals for various types of instrument. If you would like to rent a musical instrument from us, please get in touch to find out how we can help.

Our busy shop has Birmingham's most varied selection of musical instruments, including mandolins, banjos, accordions, concertinas, shruti boxes, bodhrans, harmonicas and everything folky, as well as guitars, violins, woodwind and brass instruments, and accessories, strings, reeds, cases and parts for almost everything we sell.

With expert brass and woodwind restorer Dot working onsite, we offer specialist woodwind repairs as well as a general repair service for most instruments.

You'll find a great mix of brands in-store, including Ashbury, Blueridge, Sigma, Kentucky, Washburn, Senellini, Castagnari, D'Addario, Ernie Ball, Tanglewood, Glenluce, Cort, Bues Tone and many more.

    • I have always thought the service from Hobgoblin staff, both in the shops (Birmingham is my nearest) and now using mail order; it has always been excellent (5 Star).  The staff are always friendly, very efficient and most helpful.  Great stuff and keep up the good work.

    • I’ve been in a few music shops over the years and have always felt out of place. Normally because of the staff having an attitude towards the customers. I’ve always felt quite uncomfortable because I’m not a musician as such in fact I can only string a few chords together to make a half decent sound. I was therefore extremely pleased and surprised to find the young lady and young man working in your shop in Birmingham not only extremely helpful and knowledgeable happy to talk to a non-muso like myself. I just wanted to say well done.

    • This is just a quick word to express my appreciation for the service I recently received from your shop in Birmingham....For once, I felt that I was talking to a fellow musician in a music shop, which has not always been the case in the past. We were also of the same age, which helps too! After I had decided to buy an instrument, arranging delivery to France proved to be very straightforward and, above all, very reasonably priced. The guitar was delivered yesterday and had been perfectly packed and as a result was delivered in perfect condition. I am extremely impressed with the service from your shop in Birmingham and feel strongly enough about it to want to tell you myself.

    • The staff in the Birmingham branch of Hobgoblin were absolutely amazing! I cannot tell you how lovely they all were! Very helpful, more than happy to chat and interested in what I was there for. Plus the fact that I was more than happy with my ukulele deal! I cannot praise them enough. Thank you.
