Chalumeau

The Chalumeau is the ancestor of the Clarinet and itself probably inspired by earlier single reed instruments such as the Pibcorn. It is played just like a clarinet, but does not have the upper register. We also see updated modern 2 octave Chalumeaux: The Xaphoon is a popular modern invention made in plastic that can also play in the upper octave, the Clariphone is a similarly specified two octave wooden instrument from Spain.
