Advice on Choosing Melodeons

Choosing your Melodeon

What tuning should I get?

Firstly you need to know what style of music you will mainly want to play, the most popular styles are given below, and each calls for a different tuning. Apart from the style you prefer, you should consider what key your friends use, so you can join in and learn from them, and the pitch of your voice. We would always recommend you to start on a two row.

China has been making melodeons since at least 1980. Our Scarlatti brand has two separate sources - the Scarlatti starter models look somewhat similar to the Hohner Erica model, but not as well finished. The new series of Rosso, Nero and Woods are made in a new workshop set up a few years back and we were impressed when we met them that the people there know all about reeds. We are using Italian reeds in the models from this factory.
