Definition: traditionally used by aboriginal people of Northern Australia; an end-blown, straight, natural trumpet, without separate mouthpiece, made from termite hollowed eucalyptus branch, stripped of its outer bark, with beeswax at mouth end.

TAPERED TIN WHISTLES

Whistles made out of a rolled up and soldered sheet of metal, with a wooden plug tend to sound very breathy. This type of whistle offers a different range of sounds to the other methods of construction. Conical bore instruments tend to have a more focussed sound.
